Catalhoyuk, which
archaeologists reckon to be among the oldest civilized human settlements yet discovered,
is located about 55 kilometers from Konya. It is located 10 kilometers to the
east of Cumra, a county of Konya. The first archaeological studies were made by C.
Mellart ' in 1965. Today it is important as the first sample of settlement in Anatolia. It
was settled in the early Neolithic period; its history goes back to 9000 B.C. This center
sheds light on the prehistory of human beings, with original findings which belong to the
first holy buildings and architectural housing. Many excavation finds are displayed in
the Konya Archaeology Museum and the Ankara Anatolia Civilizations Museum. Çatalhöyük Excavations
