Obruk cicims are woven in the surrounding villages of Obruk, a small farming community situated 66 km north-east of Konya. They are a distinctive form of flatweave, possessing design patterns and colour schemes, which are traditional to the area. Red is considered the primary colour yet, on occasion, non-dyed grey, brown and white mohair may serve as the primary colour of an Obruk cicim as well. Cicims were generally created for the dowry and often stored inside the dowry box. Consequently, when they were later taken out and used, they could look practically new. Traditionally, these cicims were woven using fine,  high quality wool. However, cotton is often woven into them as a means of enhancing and highlighting the appearance of native design patterns. Obruk pieces are highly regarded for their exceptionally fine wool and master craftsmanship.   BACK TO CICIMS
